The "Carlo Azeglio Ciampi" Institute of Advanced Studies is the interfaculty research centre of the Scuola Normale, based in Florence, at Palazzo Strozzi. It carries out research activities featuring interdisciplinary approaches and an international dimension, and issuing invitations to lecturers and researchers from abroad. It is named after Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, former President of the Republic and a pupil of the SNS, where he graduated in literature in 1941.
Its activities are funded not only by the Normale itself, but also by the Ministry of University and Research, by the Associazione Amici della Scuola Normale Superiore (the Friends of the Scuola Normale Superiore) of Pisa and from other sources.
It is led by a President and a Scientific Council.
The President is Mario Pianta.
